    Job Description

    Under the direction of the Executive Director and/or Director of Aquatics, Aquatics Coordinator responsibilities will include supervision of part-time lifeguards, safety, training and managing the aquatics center. Must be able to professionally explain and enforce rules and policies to members, participants, and staff. Works with the Executive Director and/or Director of Aquatics to grow and improve aquatics programming. Develops relationships with members and participants by encouraging the use of aquatics programs to promote health and wellness.

    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    The Aquatics Coordinator will be responsible for the following in collaboration with the Director of Aquatics:

     

    1. Helps to implements and oversee aquatics programs such as, but not limited to Parent & Child Swim Lessons, Adult Lessons, Family Swim Programs, Pre-School Lessons, and Pool Parties that reflect community needs and maintain the YMCA's high standards of quality, safety and caring.
    2. Assists with managing and achieving budget.
    3. Ensures that pools meet all health and safety standards including a clean environment, appropriate air and water temperature, chemical balance, and timely pool water testing. Secures pool facilities when not in use. Advises supervisor and Director of Maintenance of any repair needs and concerns immediately. Assists with maintenance of all aquatic’s areas.
    4. Helps to hire, train, supervise and evaluates aquatics staff as programs dictate and budget guidelines allow.
    5. Ensures that all staff have appropriate and updated certifications.
    6. Maintains a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.
    7. Teaches and supervises aquatics classes and lifeguards on a regular basis. Fills in for any open guards’ shifts.
    8. Performs most administrative functions for the aquatics department.
    9. Assists with the planning and attends most special events such as Healthy Kids' Day, YMCA hosted swim meets, and other various celebrations.
    10. Attends required abuse risk management training, follows mandated abuse reporting and adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferred related field
    • Minimum age of 21
    • 3 years minimum of recreation, pool management, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Experience supervising staff and developing pool and class schedules.
    • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, and Blood Born Pathogen certification.
    • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
    • Completion of YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications withing 1 year from hire date for Lifeguarding and Swim Instruction.
    • Knowledge of computers and associated skills.
    • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
    • Y Team Leader preferred

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Safety First! Must know how to report and respond to abuse. Follow all safety policies and procedures.
    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
    • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
    • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness
