The Town of Farmville is seeking a full-time Communications Operator Trainee. This is an entry level position that requires a basic dispatch certification within one year of hire. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing and deal with the public under stressful conditions. Familiarity with the TOwn of Farmville and surrounding areas is a plus.

- Receive and transmits messages primarily by radio and maintains radio log.
- receive complaints in person or by telephone.
- Receive emergency calls, determines location and nature of emergency, and dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment.
- Monitor teletype traffic, sends teletype messages, and maintains teletype log.
- Monitor primary and secondary police frequencies and emergency frequencies.
- Dispatch responders where and when needed.
- Take telephone calls concerning complaints, passes information on to appropriate unit and makes record of calls.
- Make VCIN queries to include criminal history checks.
- Receive/Monitor business, residential, and Longwood door alarms.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required
