My Proposal for The Student Artist Mural Project has been chosen as one of only 5 finalists to compete for 3 grants to bring our proposals to life. BUT I need YOUR help to win. On April 7th at 6pm at the LCVA all 5 proposals will present their ideas and YOU will vote for the top 3.
A little bit about The Student Artist Mural Project:
My proposal involes creating 4-5 mural spaces around Downtown Farmville where local student artists can submit their artwork for consideration to be painted up onto one of the mural spots. I modeled it after Longwood Scupture Project, where artists propose sculptures and a board selects the ones that go on campus. They stay on campus for a time (I think its like 3 years) and then they change. So for our Student Murals we would change them every year. I have considered having it alighed with The Heart of VA Festival dates but that decision can come later.
The reason I'm so excited about this being a possibility is that as an art teacher at PECMS I see soooo much talent come through my classroom. And while I adore the LCVA Start With Art Student Show, its only 2 months of the whole year. I think some of our students have a future in art, and the best way to start that future is to have the WORLD see their art. As a photographer I travel HOURS to take pics in front of some murals. That would be YOUR student's art. An engaged couple takes a photo in front of your student art and posts it on a wedding blog, and boom, your young artist's career has officially begun. This opportunity for our young artists is just endless and I'm so excited to see what comes from it.
