The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association at Longwood is hosting a 5K walk on the High Bridge Trail to raise awareness and funds for the deaf and hard of hearing. The walk will begin at the Farmville Train Station on Saturday, April 5 at 10 am. Half of the net proceeds will be used to support Longwood's Speech, Hearing & Learning Services (SHLS) on campus clinic. Specifically to help cover the expenses of our graduate students who volunteer at Camp Loud and Clear - a summer camp for students ages 7-18 who are deaf or hard of hearing! The other half of the proceeds will help fund Hearing Charities of America's national hearing health mission projects such as: College scholarships for hard-of-hearing and deaf students; Scholarships for those pursuing graduate studies in speech-language pathology or audiology; SAFEEars! an awareness program for the prevention of Noise Induced Hearing Loss; A Sound Investment campaign to promote better public accessibility for people using assistive hearing devices; Grants to local non-profits providing hearing healthcare in communities across the nation.
