Clean the Bay Day is full of real people, making a visible difference. On Saturday, June 1st, the Friends of the Appomattox River (FoAR) team up with High Bridge Trail State Park to perform a river cleanup. The public is invited to participate and we will meet at the boat ramp at Riverside Park in Farmville at 1:00 p.m.
The cleanup focuses on the health of the Appomattox River which is in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Our group will be concentrating on the Appomattox River bank that High Bridge Trail crosses over just downstream from the Rt. 45 bridge. Be prepared to walk through weeds and maybe some mud to pick up debris and litter. Please wear work clothes, old shoes, gloves and sunscreen and bring bottled water and bug spray. The FoAR also hopes to have a canoe or two in the water focusing on extracting old tires. A number of them have been seen, if the water is low enough we’ll try to reach them.
