High Bridge Trail State Park along with the Piedmont Community Health Coalition and the Farmville Farmer's Market will host an event to promote the benefits of physical activity, healthy eating, and health and wellness. Other goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors as part of National Get Outdoors Day (GO Day).
Starting at 8:30 a.m., one of the main events will be the High Bridge Trail Community Health Challenge, which is a community health "expo" and trail walk open to the public. The event will take place at the Farmville Farmers' Market near downtown Farmville and will include a 5K (3.1 mile) portion of the High Bridge trail immediately west of the Farmers Market Pavilion, where participants will access the trail. The event is open to the public and includes prizes for trail walk participants and information about chronic disease prevention and locally available health and wellness services. There will be healthy cooking exhibitions, exercise demonstrations, and live music.
National Get Outdoors Day is an annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun.
